Spices of 16 companies, including Goldy, Ashok, not fit for consumption: Insects and pesticides found in vegetable spices in Kanpur, sale banned

The spices you eat are spoiling your health. Samples of 16 companies, including Goldy, Ashok, Bhola vegetable spices, have failed the investigation. UP Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) says – many products of companies are not edible.

In fact, FSDA officials raided spice companies in Kanpur in May this year. Samples of 35 products of different spices of 16 companies were sent to Agra for examination. Of these, 23 reports have been revealed.

It was found to contain a lot of pesticides and insecticides. Insects have also been found. After this, the FSDA has banned the sale of these products of spices. The brand ambassador of Goldie Masala is actor Salman Khan.

Most of the
spice companies are in Kanpur. FSDA officials had collected samples from Shubham Goldy Masala Company of Dadanagar, Kanpur. They include sambar masala, chaat masala and garam masala unsafe. This company makes products for the Goldie brand.

Similarly, deficiencies were found in the products of two companies of Ashok Spices. Their products – coriander powder, garam masala and matar paneer masala – were not found edible. Similarly, the sale of Bhola spice products has been banned.

Harmful substances have been found in the products of 14 other companies sold at the local level. Pesticides have also been found in turmeric powder of these companies.

Assistant Food Commissioner Sanjay Pratap Singh said that insects, contaminants were found in 23 samples of other companies including Ashok, Goldy branded spices. After the samples of MDH and Everest spices failed, samples were taken on the instructions of the government. The Food and Drug Department conducted a drive in May and raided 13 spice factories in the city.


He said that samples of 35 vegetable spices were taken from different factories. All were sent to the lab for examination. Now the food department has found the samples of spices of the companies failing. A notice has been issued to their owners seeking an answer.

If the answer is not satisfactory, a case will be filed against all. A lawsuit will be filed against them in ADM City Court. After this, the penalty will be fixed on all.
